[A glimpse into the lifeways of the indigenous people (Orang Asli) of Perak] In the traditional ceremonies and festivals of the Semai Orang Asli, a spiritual guide called the halak, somewhat like a shaman, leads rituals to thank the gods. Imagine bamboo instruments playing, leaf-made decorations, and everyone coming together for singing and dancing, while women prepare delicious food for all to enjoy. Unfortunately, these beautiful traditions are slowly fading away due to problems like how land is managed, changes in beliefs, a weakening sense of Orang Asli identity, and various other challenges. Despite these changes, the present-day Semai people are determined to preserve their cultural heritage. They've shifted away from some traditional beliefs but still use songs and music to express gratitude for the gifts they receive from nature.
