Dreaming Islands - A Geomancy of Time : Artist Talk

In this artist–curator talk, artist John Clang and curator Michelle Lim discuss bringing 𝘋𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘐𝘴𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘴 to George Town, exploring Penang’s layered histories and connections with Singapore.

Clang shares ideas behind his ongoing project 𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘺 𝘢𝘯 𝘈𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘵, the anchor artwork, which uses reading and attentiveness to engage place, communities, and lived time. Lim explains how Dreaming Islands, as a curatorial research framework, enriches the context for understanding the work.

Together, they reflect on how art and curatorial inquiry reveal shared human experiences shaped by movement, memory, and collective histories, offering a lens on community formation, shared destiny, and interlinked histories across the former Straits Settlements.

”Dreaming Islands” exhibition will be on going from 8 - 12 January 2026, 9:00am to 7:00pm at COEX @ Kilang Besi.
