This arts program invites audiences to explore Bardo, the state between life and death, a topic often considered taboo in Chinese culture. By shedding light on this mysterious transition, the program offers a deeper understanding of its meaning.The experience combines Sam Koh’s striking art installations, featuring symbolic effigies, with a powerful theatre performance by Wai Kong. Together, they bring Bardo to life, sparking reflection on transformation and passage. Adding to the atmosphere, Ling will perform the haunting soundtrack for the piece, conducted by Sam Koh, blending music seamlessly with the visual and theatrical elements.Through this creative collaboration, A Journey Through Bardo encourages audiences to confront cultural taboos, embrace curiosity, and reflect on the spaces between life, death, and beyond.
“中阴身”(梵语:antarābhava,藏语:bardo)是佛教,尤其是藏传佛教与汉传密教中,关于 “死后至再生之间” 的一个重要概念。它指的是人死后灵识脱离肉体,在尚未投胎转世前所经历的一个中间阶段。
通过环境剧场的表演方式,结合现场乐队的实验与摇滚演奏,以全新角度呈现华人丧礼丰富的仪式,从中探讨死亡与投胎之间那个存在的意识,俗称《中阴身》。
