Dabke Dance Workshop 29 November 2025 | 6pm - 7pm | COEX @ Kilang Besi

image

When words fall short, we dance.

Join us for a Palestinian Dabke Workshop, a celebration of movement, memory, and resilience.

Dabke is a traditional Palestinian line dance, a living expression of unity, identity, and resistance. Every stomp and every clap tells a story of joy, struggle, and steadfastness. Even amidst displacement and war, Palestinians continue to dance Dabke, holding onto rhythm as an act of remembrance and hope.

Come dance in solidarity from Malaysia to Palestine. Together, we keep the rhythm alive.

*Free and open to all

Poets have always played an important role in the Palestinian movement for liberation. After the Nakba, the displacement of the Palestinian people from their ancestral land in 1948, a new school of poetry arose known as Palestinian resistance poetry. In this workshop, we will read poems by Mahmoud Darwish, Fadwa Tuqan, and others, exploring themes of exile, love of land, steadfastness, and struggle. Together weโ€™ll reflect on the poetry, the ongoing struggle for liberation, and the meaning of solidarity.

Paul Catafago is a Palestinian writer, journalist, and cultural organizer born and raised in exile in New York. His family has been part of the struggle for self-determination in Palestine for over a century. A longtime member of the Palestinian movement, Paul served as the English-language editor of the political magazine Al Hourrieh in Damascus and lived in Yarmouk Refugee Camp. He earned a Masterโ€™s in Theological Arts from Maryknoll School of Theology in New York, where he studied with Dr. Marc H. Ellis, a radical Jewish theologian who wrote about ending occupation and building solidarity between Jews and Palestinians.

Paul founded an arts nonprofit promoting cultural diversity, and his poetry has appeared in anthologies around the world, including Madness (Nepal, 2023) and Antologรญa de Poesรญa Resistencia Palestina (Chile, 2024). He has performed at international poetry festivals from Puerto Rico to El Salvador and is the author of Sumud: Poems of the Palestinian Diaspora (2024), Un Poema Es Un Cuchillo (2025), and The Palestinian Freedom Now Suite (2025).

*Register on a first come first serve basis. This workshop is limited to 12pax

Echoes of Palestine 5 - 6 December 2025 | 7pm | Hin Bus Depot

Join us for Echoes of Palestine, an evening where voices, movement, and artistry come together to reflect and respond to the lived realities of the Palestinian people. Local and Palestinian artists will share poetry, dance, and music that tell stories of struggle, perseverance, and the steadfastness of their communities.

We are honored to welcome Bissan, an activist and heritage consultant, who will guide us through Palestinian landscapes told through Tatreez embroidery. Each design comes alive in a storytelling format, connecting us to the memories, landscapes, and cultural legacy embedded in Palestinian life. Alongside this, Aida Redza and Luvenia Kalia will perform a piece inspired by Paul Catafagoโ€™s work. Original poetry, music, and heartfelt tributes to those who have passed will complete a night of reflection, remembrance, and celebration.

The evening will close with a participatory dabke dance, inviting everyone to join in. Through stomps, steps, and claps, participants will move together, echoing rhythms of resistance, unity, and community.
