槟城的魅力源于那些承载着历史故事和匠人精神的街头景观。我们有幸将这些热爱槟城的艺术家和设计师聚集在一起，让传统艺术与现代设计有个对话的空间，别错过这场为期三周的 槟城字游 活动，6月10号至25号，期间将有3场展览 x 1场走街 x 5场讲座 x 4场工作坊。
The charm of Penang lies in its street landscapes that carry historical stories and the spirit of artisans. We are fortunate to gather artists and designers who have in-depth knowledge and expertise in the typeface-related industry, creating a space for a dialogue between traditional art and modern design. 前记录片制作人和摄影师，曾与瑞典海洋考古学家 Sten Sjostrand 合作。他曾为历史频道拍摄有关海上贸易和古代沉船的纪录片，并对南中国海的古船遗址的研究工作产生浓厚的兴趣。
Ben Rongen Kraak Creations (a former film director and cameraman, joined Swedish marine archaeologist Sten Sjostrand in 2000. He discovered his passion for documenting ancient shipwrecks in the South China Sea while filming documentaries for the History Channel.)

传统拼贴的字体与数码的电子语言有不谋而合之处，以动图视角重新理解仔细字型趣味！ Motion Type in George Town is a series of motion types that are inspired by the streetscape elements and letters in George Town. In this series, they are all animated from the elements and letters around George Town. Eventually, here comes the result when there are ways to do motion design based on the context, expression and emotion from the everyday objects in Penang.

Ft. Jwohan (He is a Multidisciplinary Designer focuses on Art Direction, Graphic & Motion design practice. Currently working at Foci Collective.He constantly explores and experiments with typography as a graphic asset, incorporating it into motion design in unique ways. He also showcased his work at various events such as DEMO festival (2022), MAPP Tokyo (2021) etc.
一名多领域设计师，专注于艺术指导、平面设计和动画设计。他目前就职于 Foci Collective。他认为平面设计不再是一个独立的实体，而是一种跨学科的设计，可以连接几乎所有元素，如空间、声音、感官等。

将展示多个不同时代的古代器物，对针对上面的文字和图案进行解述。同时他还将展出一些非常罕见的砖碑碣石拓片，并现场演示拓印过程。拓印术，又称蝉蜕术，是中国古代最早出现的一种特殊印刷技术。它是将纸紧贴在器物上，使用墨拓的方式将上面的文字、图案和纹饰印在纸上。
Showcasing a variety of ancient artifacts from different eras and provide explanations on the accompanying texts and patterns. He will also exhibit some exceptionally rare brick, tablet, and stele rubbings, and conduct live demonstrations of the rubbing process.
何暐义。槟城出生，旅居北京多年。专注于紫砂、金石文化、高古陶瓷和其他领域的鉴定和研究工作。曾在文物局负责水下考古器物鉴定和东南亚文物回流征集，以及艺术品/文物国际物流等领域。
by Ho Weiyi, a Penangnite residing in Beijing, specializes in the identification and research of Zisha pottery, calligraphy, stone culture, and ancient ceramics. He has studied under renowned masters and has expertise in underwater archaeological artifact identification, Southeast Asian cultural relics collection, and international logistics for art and cultural artifacts.)

乔治市老街就像一个开放式展览厅，老旧的牌匾就像一幅幅展品高挂门店悬梁上。至少两位导览员是那么认为的，他们一直希望有机会带大家看看他们眼中即将消逝的“艺术品”。
Strolling through the vibrant streets of George Town – an open-air gallery where shop signs are the works of art. Walking from the Seven Streets Precinct (Chit Tiao Lor) > Old Prangin Canal > Carnarvon Street, grab your friends and join us for a fun exploration of type.

Led by T Sueh Li , who is a type & graphic designer from Penang. She founded Huruf, an educational platform that explores type design and typography that are inspired by Malaysian culture.
Upon her return to hometown Penang, it is always her passion to observe, be amazed, and draw inspiration from her roots to recreate unique typeface.
A Hokkien lettering workshop inspired by unusual letterforms found in Penang typography streetscape, such as shopfront signages and vernacular typography. We will explore how to capture and translate the typographic expression from the streets to paper using Romanised and Chinese Hokkien lettering, to express personal sentiments about Penang.

老师会与大家分享他在篆刻领域的经验和专业知识，展示刀法技巧与篆书艺术之间的微妙融合。参与者将有机会亲自动手使用雕刻工具，学习如何制作属于自己的个性化印章。
Tan will share his knowledge and expertise in seal carving, showcasing the delicate balance between knife techniques and the art of seal script. You will have hands-on practice with carving tools and learn how to create your own personalized seals.
// 工作坊 Workshop - 4 // 字体动态设计工作坊：传统元素的现代转译 Analog motion type workshop: Traditional to Contemporary by Jwohan 25th June (sun)
动画是想象的衍生，当字体变成主角，从静态的街景跳脱出来 thit-thor. 我们希望以此作为此 #槟城字游 的最终场。虽然是动态设计工作坊，但是完全不需要会电子技术（也不需要带电脑！）数码语言其实和字体设计有很多不谋而合的逻辑，参与者将被引导模拟动画技术，以槟城的字体为灵感创作，在纸上绘制一幅幅画帧，最终作品将转化为GIF或MP4格式（厉害的话就会像图里显示的那般）
How typography express a design piece’s meaning, tone and mood in digital era? In this workshop, you'll learn analog motion techniques and create your own animated artwork inspired by Penang's typography. Using shopfront signages as references, you'll create frames on paper and transform them into captivating GIF or MP4 formats. Take home a digital file showcasing your unique creation.
