"The Cycle" by Tan Lay Heong is a sustainable art installation that explores the relationship between individuals and their environment. This exhibition serves as a metaphor for the broader context of our current situation, highlighting the balance and interconnectedness with others, wider society, and environmental structures. The ongoing pandemic has magnified the importance of this introspection. Through her artwork, Lay Heong provokes contemplation on the meaning of harmonious cohabitation with the natural world.

Lay Heong's artistic practice primarily focuses on installation art and contemporary shadow play performances. She incorporates the concept of upcycling into her work, promoting the use of reused objects and found materials. In addition to the exhibition, Lay Heong will also be launching "The Cycle" NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) after the event, providing a digital extension of her artwork. Alexdrina Chong is a creative director, designer, illustrator, educator, and artist. She produces art under the name Alexoid Luce, and has been open about her mental health challenges, having been diagnosed with bipolar disorder in her mid-20s. When the pandemic hit, she had to spend a lot of the lockdown period alone, and in 2021, she cranked open an empty journal and started to draw. In Alexdrina's own words, what started as casual visual journaling swiftly took the form of a dark and satirical characterization of her experience as an Asian woman, with a fragile and defensive inner child lurking within. One Hundred Pages of Solitude: Book 1 is a book about love, and is a compilation of 100 images from all three journals dated between May 2021 to April 2022.
A Conversation with Myself Through Art is an intimate and hopefully insightful conversation deep into Alexdrina's world of art creation fueled by anxiety, melancholia, curiosity, and imagination. In her pursuit of clarity, while living with bipolar disorder, she has come to realize how we constantly tell ourselves how to feel and how to act, actually deepens the stress we try to avoid in our lives. While the whole world is eagerly stepping out from the recent Covd-19 pandemic, another global health issue that is on the rise is the mental health pandemic. According to research, anger, stress, worry, and sadness have been on the rise globally for the past decade -- long before the COVID-19 pandemic -- and all reached record highs in 2020.
In this sharing, Alexdrina will open up about how she navigates her life with bipolar disorder, and her realization of the practical intelligence of sadness, anxiety, and all other emotions that seemingly cripple us.
