Taiwan’s Indigenous peoples share Austronesian roots, yet comprise diverse groups with distinct languages, migration histories, social structures and cultural traditions.

In this sharing, Prof. Dong Jianhui examines their relationships through three dimensions: 𝘱𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘴, 𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦, from identity and social organisation, to landscapes and resource territories, and the historical forces that have continually reshaped ethnic boundaries.

Drawing on history, ethnography, archaeology and linguistics, the talk presents ethnic relations not as fixed categories, but as a dynamic process shaped by people, place and historical change.
